Monthly Maze Competition - May 2012
Every month Mazelog is giving away a superb Hanayama cast metal puzzle as a prize for the winning entry to the monthly maze.

This month the competition has been sponsored by Puzzle This, an on-line shop specialising in wire, wooden, metal, and string puzzles. They supply the entire range of Hanayama cast puzzles.
Visit their on-line store at: http://www.puzzlethis-shop.co.uk/
This month's prize is the Hanayama Cast Elk puzzle, in which the task is to separate two chromed shapes emblazoned with an elk insignia. How hard can that be? The answer - very hard! In fact Hanayama give this their highest difficulty rating of 6 out of 6.

Full details of how to enter are given below. Here's this month's maze:
Chess 77 (easy)
This is a standard chess maze (see Chess Mazes). The chess piece on each square tells you how you can move to the next square.
For example, from the bishop in the top left corner you can only move to the knight diagonally below it and to its right. From here you could make a knight's jump to three possible pieces. Suppose you chose the rook in the middle of the top row; this could then move to one of the pieces on either side of it, or to the bishop two squares below it.
Start in the top left-hand corner, and find a route to the bottom right-hand corner.

How to Enter
Your solution to the Chess 77 maze above should be written as a sequence of numbers, indicating the route through the maze, where 1 is the top left cell and 49 is the bottom right cell:

The first number should be 1, the starting position, and the last number should be 49, the goal, so a possible solution might be (it isn't):
1 3 5 7 9 49
