Monthly Maze Competition - August 2026

Every month Mazelog presents the challenge of a new logic maze. Solve the maze to get your name published in next month's list of correct entries.

Full details of how to enter are given below. Here's this month's maze:

Rooknights (easy)

This is a chess maze with a twist (see Chess Mazes). The pieces are Rooknights - they alternately behave as a rook and a knight.

Start at the Rooknight in the top left corner moving like a rook, horizontally or vertically. From there you can move to the Rooknight to its right, or to the one below.

You are now jumping like a knight. Move to the next Rooknight, and then change back to moving like a rook. Continue, alternating between rook and knight moves, until you have found the shortest path to the finishing square in the bottom right corner:

How to Enter

Your solution to the Rooknights maze above should be written as a sequence of numbers, indicating the route through the maze, where 1 is the top left cell and 25 is the bottom right cell. If you solve the maze interactively the solution will be typed in for you.
